How to Convert JPG to Editable Text

A practical guide to extracting text from JPG photos, screenshots and scans while checking the result against the original.

OmniOCR Team

JPG files are easy to share, but the text inside them cannot be searched or edited directly. OCR turns that image into text you can review and reuse.

Prepare a readable JPG

Use a clear JPG with even lighting and enough resolution for small text. Cropped screenshots and straight-on photos usually need less correction than blurred or heavily angled images. OmniOCR accepts JPG files up to 10 MB.

Convert JPG to text

  1. Open the JPG to text workspace.
  2. Choose, drag or paste a JPG file.
  3. Compare the original with the text, table, formula or Markdown result.

The result stays beside the source so you can check names, numbers and dense areas before copying it into another document.

Check the result before reuse

OCR is a first draft. Review small characters, punctuation, columns, formulas and handwritten marks against the original. Use the Markdown view when you need a clean structure for notes or further editing.

Recent result text is kept in your browser for quick comparison on the same device. OmniOCR does not store the source image or recognized text in its application database; the image is sent to the OCR provider for processing.
